I began private training with Ron after a long period of not working out which resulted in issues with my back and less energy overall.
Ron structured a fitness plan to fit my needs and coached me through the weeks and months with patience for my progress and confidence in my abilities.
His attention to proper technique and injury prevention is something that I have noticed and appreciated ever since we began.
After having trained with Ron for several months now I can honestly say I feel fitter and more confident in my athletic abilities than I have in many, many years. From bodyweight exercises to the barbell, I have learned so much about how to exercise well, and I absolutely recommend Ron and the gym for anyone interested in bettering themselves, regardless of their level of fitness. Just do it.
I first met Ron in 2013 when I joined his gym. I was a total newbie to CrossFit and lifting but quickly gained new skills and strength under Ron's watchful eye. Since then, he's coached me through two pregnancies and post-partum periods, helping me rebuild with appropriate movements and modifications that increased at just the right pace. I've seen him coach folks at every level of fitness, from elite athletes to older folks who just want to have more mobility and flexibility. Ron has a special ability as a coach that only comes from being attentive and attuned to an individual's capacity and potential combined with years of varied and vast athletic and fitness experience and knowledge. Ron knows where and how he can encourage and challenge you to help you reach your goals and to do it in a way that is safe and appropriate for your fitness level. I truly feel that an investment in Ron's coaching is an investment in your long term health and fitness.
I'm happy to say, even though I moved two states away, Ron's virtual coaching and programming has been awesome and just what I needed.
We're in constant (but not TOO constant) communication and I appreciate his check-ins for feedback about the programming, inquiries about any adjustments that may need to be made, and just general updates on how I'm doing. I'm confident that whatever fitness goal I next set for myself will be reached thanks to Ron's coaching.
I've had an adversarial relationship with "gym culture" my entire life. Ron Yellin changed all that. Turns out, it's a simple-to-conceive but hard-to-achieve formula: combine a dash of personnel that has world-class training experience + a culture of love and support and humor + the tools and techniques necessary to improve your fitness goals. Boom.
Ron Yellin has made my fitness life a dream. Can't recommend Ron Yellin highly enough. Game changer!
It's hard to even find the words to express how happy I have been as a client of Ron's. He leveled me up and changed my life!
Working with Ron as my coach I've accomplished my goals. When I started with him I wanted to be able to do one pull-up—I couldn't do any. Today I can do a set of ten! I have become so strong; something I truly never thought possible for me.
In Ron, I feel like I have a partner in my success that respects my likes, dislikes, and boundaries. It's easy for trainers to just stamp out cookie-cutter plans and call it a day—that is not what you'll find here.
Ron took the time to get to know me, my competencies, and my weaknesses and programs for me around them. He'd do the same for you, and for any of his clients, and because of that attention to detail going to the gym becomes a joy, not a chore.
I feel like the sky's the limit with Ron as my coach. I did the work, but he showed me the way, and I've gone places I've never thought possible.
Ron Yellin is an exceptional coach and trainer. I walked into Greenpoint Athletics having never stepped foot in a gym before. Ron transformed me and changed my life, teaching me things that I never thought I could accomplish.
He has a very keen eye to analyze movement and technique and is extraordinarily kind and welcoming (when he’s not making you do burpees or run around the block). He had the patience to teach, train, and coach me toward new goals. After many years of ballet, I have learned the nuances of weightlifting. I am now the strongest I have ever been and, one day, will run around the block without complaining. Maybe.
I've been training with Ron since 2014 and he's helped me meet my goals (and new goals) throughout that period. Ron has a focused eye for detail and is exacting with form correction. He delivers helpful tips when needed and somehow knows just the amount of information that will not overwhelm you.
Similarly, Ron is keenly aware of when to push you harder and when to let you catch your breath.
I have worked through lots of movement refinement and feel like I'm training harder/smarter without pain.
A 2013 motorcycle accident left me with a torn labrum and herniated discs throughout my neck. Ron is sensitive to my injuries and caters movements to meet my needs. Not only do we avoid aggravation of the injury but my shoulder has consistently grown stronger from working out with Ron.
I strongly encourage anyone—novice to expert—if you're curious about a new fitness goal, talk it through with Ron.
As a former collegiate rower, I entered my 30s with two things: the constant need to be working towards a fitness accomplishment and chronic back pain. This pain had ebbed and flowed since hanging up my oars, but last year it manifested in a debilitating herniated disc. For a week, I could barely leave my bed. Even with a steroid injection, training was out of the question for months. Craving structure, I asked Ron if he could not only help me get moving again, but prepare me for what at the time seemed to be a moonshot: a 100+ mile cycling trip through the Catskill mountains.
Ron enthusiastically personalized a training plan built around my time constraints and — given COVID-19 limitations — the resources I had in my small Brooklyn apartment.
Using heavy objects, stretchy bands, and whatever surfaces I had available, Ron remotely transformed my living room into everything I needed to support my recovery and build strength for my goal. The plan pushed me. But when my body told me to back off, Ron was a text away, quick to amend my programming on the fly. The communication kept me accountable, as Ron consistently checked-in to see how I was responding to the programming. Through 5 months of cycling and bodyweight strength building, I went from having difficulty walking to cranking out 7,000 feet of climbing over 100 miles. There is no universe where that is possible without Ron Yellin's programming and moral support. Period. Having found my legs again, I am already looking ahead to my next goal. And Ron will be a part of that journey.
I was referred to Ron through a mutual friend a little over 2.5 years ago and to say that those 2.5 years have been some of the most physically and mentally rewarding years of my life would be an understatement.
Prior to that, trips to the local big box gym were filled with apprehension and anxiety. I knew I wanted to get in shape, but didn’t know where to begin.
Ron was approachable from the start. I have never felt belittled, rushed or intimidated. He always gives his undivided attention and has a keen eye for proper form and technique, giving corrections in a way that feels non-critical.
He has an ability to motivate without being overbearing. His extensive knowledge of everything from human anatomy to basic nutrition to the fundamental principles of exercise science is extraordinary.
More importantly, Ron takes the time to listen and assess my needs and goals, which have changed since our initial meeting. In the beginning, I wanted to ‘get in shape,’ in the most general sense, but mostly wanted to lose weight. I lost 30lb within 4 months.
Next, I wanted to put more of a focus on gaining muscle and strength and I can say, without a doubt, that I am the strongest that I have ever been and in the best shape of my life.
Recently, Ron has helped me recover from a debilitating lower back injury, being patient and encouraging while tailoring a program around any limitations.
Meeting Ron has literally been life-changing and I whole heartedly recommend him to anyone who has even the slightest interest in self improvement.
After playing division 1 college lacrosse, I dabbled with a number of different types of exercises ranging from yoga to long distance running but was ultimately unsatisfied. I was lucky enough to meet Ron through his gym at Greenpoint Athletics and, when I relocated away from the neighborhood, I began working with him directly on a remote basis. After my fitness regimen was initially disrupted by COVID, I was seeking to regain the strength, endurance, and mobility that Ron had helped me achieve prior to the pandemic. He has curated programming for me that is dynamic yet targeted and also mentored me mentally and athletically towards achieving these objectives (even helping me craft those goals when I myself wasn’t exactly sure what I was seeking). He has delivered in spades.
Ron is a thoughtful, creative, and extremely knowledgeable fitness enthusiast who is an absolute pleasure to have as a coach.
I have never worked with any coach (in any capacity) that cares more than Ron about their clients’ fitness pursuits and this approach manifests itself in both the thoughtfulness of his programming and the regular feedback/updates we exchange via text and phone calls. He is a perfect fit for any person seeking to take their fitness to the next level regardless of their past level of expertise.
I started working with Ron almost 6 years ago when I was first introduced to CrossFit. He helped me learn the ropes, get my nutrition on track, and put me on a path to gain strength for the first time in my life.
Since then, he’s helped me achieve new goals in olympic lifting, powerlifting, bodybuilding, cycling, and other areas — achieving things I honestly never thought I was capable of.
He’s worked closely with me to understand each of the different goals I’ve had along the way and created custom programs that would help me achieve them. Everything from a 2x bodyweight squat to a multi-day, 400+ mile bikepacking trip.
Ron is kind, funny, and cares deeply about fitness. Training is something I regularly look forward to because of his approach and personality. As I’ve told all of my friends ad nauseam, if you’re not training with Ron, you should be.”
